Anime (Ah-nee-may, not Ah-nee-mee)-
In Japan that's what they called animation. Now they use this in the Western
language to distinguish Japanese animation.
Otaku- often meaning obsessive fan or rather a dedicated fan of anime/manga, but meanings could differ in Japan.
Fansubs- Subtitled anime done by fans, for fans.
Fanfiction- Fiction stories written by fans, usually based on characters from a certain series, show, etc.
Fanart- Artwork by fans of characters from a certain series, show, etc.
Manga- Japanese comics, means "random" or "whimsical" pictures
Doujinshi- Manga created by fans, usually parodies or stories based on anime/manga characters and series.
OVA/OAV- stands for Original Video Animation or Original Animated Video.
Made for release on video rather than for TV or in theaters.
AMV- stands for Anime Music Video.
RPG- stands for Role Playing Game
OST- stands for Original Soundtrack
Shoujo- Can be used to describe anime/manga for girls. (Ex: Sailor Moon)
Shounen- Can be used to describe anime/manga for boys. (Ex: Dragonball Z)
Ecchi- meaning slightly perverted (not as graphic)
Shounen-ai (Show-nehn-ah-ee)- Can describe something with Boy's love involved (love between boys),
less sexual, more cuddly-like.
Shoujo-ai (Show-joh-ah-ee)- Can describe something with Girl's love invovled (love between girls),
less sexual, more cuddly-like.
Hentai- very perverted or used to described graphic pornography in anime/manga.
Yaoi (Yah-oh-ee)- Involving intense/sexual Male/Male relationships
Yuri- Involving intense/sexual Female/Female relationships
Moe (Moh-eh)- Can be used to describe an ideal youthful and innocent behavior in young characters in anime/manga.
A moe character is one who is usually eager/bubbly/cheerful/cute and elicits a protective or loving
response from the viewer and is a bit dependent on others.
