Synopsis:
The Devil has been preparing to race against God to gain power by placing demons in
beautiful works of art to lure unsuspecting humans into possessing and ruining their souls. It's up to
Kaitou Jeanne, the reincarnation of Joan of Arc, and her guardian angel, Fin Fish, to seal these demons
to prevent them from winning against God and taking over the universe. After sealing these demons,
the works of art disappear and turn into a chess piece. This is how Jeanne earned her name as "Kaitou
Jeanne" or "Thief Jeanne" and she is the most wanted by the police for stealing these valuable artworks.
But what they don't know is that she's helping these possesed victims return
to normal as well as sealing the demons.
Jeanne's true identity is actually an average 16 year old high school student named, Marron.
She has a best friend named Miyako, daughter of the chief detective, who is obsessed with trying
to capture Kaitou Jeanne, not knowing it's really her best friend in disguise. Marron will have
to pursue her goal to seal the demons and live as a highschool student, hoping to keep her
other identity as Jeanne a secret. Living as two different people will not be easy for her.
But who is this mysterious Kaitou Sindbad who suddenly appears and tries to compete with Kaitou Jeanne?
What's his purpose? Why is he able to seal demons as well?

This anime is quite an action packed anime, full of mystery, fantasy, comedy, romance, and drama. Like most magical girl series, the main character transforms and uses her powers and skills to fight an enemy, but instead Jeanne is a "thief" who must seal demons within artifacts and precious objects to destroy her opponent. But with her best friend trying to capture her, her job will be more complicated. You'll find out that things don't always turn out to how they appear to be, and there will be interesting plot twists as well as emotional rollercoasters at some points. The aspects in this show is not like most magical girl shows, and perhaps it's a bit darker. But I find it interesting how the main character, Marron, has to live alone in an apartment, because of family matters. She is unlike any shoujo character I've seen, because of her emotions struggles constant fighting with her loneliness despite having a best friend. The next main character Chiaki though, makes this series more refreshing somehow. Probably because of his cool aura, laid back personality, flirtiness and blue hair (something about the blue hair >_>).
For the voice acting, I personally don't think Marron's friend has the most suitable voice and Fin Fish's voice can get a bit too high-pitched sometimes, but other than that the other voices are well done. The art in this series is really good, however, the animation seem to vary in detail a bit from time to time and there are rare instances where the animation can get choppy. The eyes for the characters are also quite a bit too big for my taste, but it doesn't take too much to get used to. Aside from that, the selection of colors they used is very vibrant and the sharp animation with the special effects makes it worthwhile to see and enjoy. This has actually become one of my favorite series and it's refreshing yet dramatic story will make this an interesting watch.
My Final Opinion: This is a nice series to watch if you are interested in a different kind of magical-girl anime. If you can get your hands on this title, then you'll find it quite entertaining. An enjoyable series for any fan who likes Shoujo or Magical girl anime!
