Gundam Seed

Synopsis: (from back of DVD cover from Bandai Entertainment)

In a future world, humanity is divided into genetically altered 'Coordinators' and unmodified 'Naturals'. Now tensions between the two sides have erupted into an all-out war between the Natural-dominated Earth Alliance and the Coordinators' ZAFT militia. None of this matters to the people oh Heliopolis, a neutral space colony, until ZAFT commando team raids the colony to capture the Alliance's new secret weapons.

"During the ZAFT attack, young civilian Kira Yamato finds himself inside the cockpit of one of the Alliance's new 'G-weapons.' Now, as the only one able to pilot this prototype Gundam, he is pressured to help protect the Arcangel, the Alliance ship where he and his friends have taken refuge. But Kira is a Coordinator, so in order to protect his friends, he must now fight against his own people - and, even worse, his best friend Athrun, who has become a ZAFT soldier!

My Thoughts:
This Gundam series has just about made history due it's increasing popularity (especially in Japan), and a revolution in the Gundam series due to it's increase in quality and unique characters. Not only is the animation more vibrant and crystal clear, but the story is richer and focuses more on the characters themselves than the Gundams. Not only that, but this is probably one of the few Gundam series with romance being one of the main aspects of the show. Because of that, it seems to also draw a large number of the female audience as well. I think this series moved me on an emotional level like no other, to the point that I would almost cry during the ending theme. The real striking dramatic scenes will stick to glue to those songs after they play them, it's just amazing how much impact they can have. The music selection is top-notch for this series hands down, and the choice of instruments and styles couldn't be better. The violins especially go with this show so well and give it such an emotional feeling. The story as well is much more interesting and much more drama based, so much that you will be moved by a LOT of the scenes. This is also why I personally prefer the original Japanese voice acting, because of the intense emotion they can put into their characters. I even couldn't help but crying several times while watching this show, it's unbelievable how it pulls your heart strings so much when you really get into this series or attached to a character. With an intense storyline, action-packed scenes, rich characters, newly designed mecha, and a lot of drama, this will definitely be a new Gundam series to experience.

My Final Opinion: A series no Gundam fan should miss. I highly recommend this series, even if you're not a fan of Gundams. This will definitely catch your interest once you understand the story and get to know the characters.
