A page discussing various character pairings in anime and their compatibility as well as some personal thoughts about each. Some romance hints may also be mentioned in these pairs (even with the males pairs), so it's just a little friendly warning if that subject makes you uncomfortable ^_^;. These anime pairs may contain small spoilers, but there will be spoilers in the video game character pairings, so make sure you are very familiar with the video game or have beaten it before proceeding. All pairs will show up on this page right below this paragraph, so after reading about each one, click 'x close x' to exit the panel. More pairs will be added in the future.
A pair that has a special connection that I picked up right in the beginning. When you first see these two together, you somehow get the feeling that these two were meant for each other. >_> They both are on the same emotional level, and Subaru seems like the only person who can heal Tsukasa's lonely and troubling soul. She also seems like the only person in "The World" who is kind and gentle enough to sympathize and understand his feelings. It seems everyone else just tries to understand Tsukasa, but they really have no clue about him and are trying to get things out of him too roughly. Despite their genders in the real world, I really think that this pair has a very strong connection that surpasses all other pairing in the game. Though Tsukasa rarely wants to meet with people, he trusts Subaru the most and he even seeks for her many times in the game, which means that he feels his meetings with her are important. It's sad or even frustrating to see Silver Knight always trying to break these two apart, preventing them, ever meeting again. Tsukasa and Subaru always seem to want to find each other, but so many obstacles keep getting in the way of them, which may even make their bond stronger. It becomes very apparent that these two can truly find peace with one another and share the same feelings for one another, either friendship or deeper than that >_>. It is apparent in the later episodes that their feelings become more tender and even more mutual than before. Since these two suffer similar emotional pains in the real world, they are the most understanding of each other. Whether it's in the game or in the real world, the feelings expressed are sincere and genuine that they can reach from anywhere, even through the characters and through the game itself.
A pair that immediately starts off in a great misunderstanding or rather in an unnecessary fight, so it's no wonder their first encounter is not as friendly as it should be. Though Kanda's impression on Allen would probably be the same either way, since he always acts cold towards just about everyone. But Allen, on the other hand, is still friendly to him even though Kanda tries to attack him straight on at first. When I first saw these two together, I thought they would be a great match, because they are complete opposites, like the ying and yang. Kanda always responds coldly to all of Allen's greetings to him, and doesn't like to touch or be touched by Allen's "cursed hand," which makes things even more difficult. They have already fought and set off big "flames" and electrical signals between them when in an argument due to Kanda's harsh words, and even they are reluctant to be partnered up for missions. However, with Allen's kind nature, he rarely holds a grudge for long and eventually treats Kanda just as normally as he would with any partner, which is why it makes this such a bittersweet pairing XD. They also often fight a lot since Kanda does nothing but insult him and call him "bean sprout," so Allen can't help but try to defend himself.
However, their very opposite personalities seem to compliment each other. Allen is a very giving and kind person, while Kanda is cold and reserved. Kanda especially seems to hate the fact that Allen is so naive and acts so nice to other people, but Allen can't help that, since that's just part of his nature. Despite the way Kanda treats him, Allen is still willing to talk to him and help him when he is in trouble, which puzzles Kanda and probably frustrates him ^_^'. If they can somehow understand each other and see eye-to eye on things, then they can really warm up to each other more. Otherwise, this makes a feisty yet nice complimenting pair. ^_^
More In-Depth- Sign Compatibility: So far, it is unknown of Allen's birthdate, but Kanda's star sign is a Gemini (6/6). Because of this incomplete information, probably intended by the creators for Allen's birthday to be unknown, I guess it will be difficult to really find out their compatibility in this department ^_^;.
Other: This pair has been often paired up in many fanarts and doujinshi, especially on a romantic level, so it's clear that these two can really be "romantically involved" if people can see their fighting as a way of "getting along." Even though Kanda is cold towards Allen, deep down he knows it's difficult to keep "hating" such a kind and adorable boy like Allen. ^_^
A pair that has a lot of tension, even from the start. They could either be friends or rivals, it's hard to say. But with Light's ambition for creating a new world and L's duty and reputation as the best detective, their skills really clash together as they each try to outsmart one another. However, without that in the way, they could actually make great partners, especially when working together to find Kira. Though they don't always agree with one another, they actually would make good friends. Both are very intelligent and have many things in common, such as both "being childish and hating to lose." L definitely has respect and admiration for Light's intelligence and abilities, and he has mentioned several times and complimented Light on those aspects about him. Light also knows L is also very intelligent and has said that L is "the greatest detective on earth." His first encounter with him was more likely fear, since he can sense how much power he has "if he really were" L. It also feels like as they work more and more together, their bond seems to grow closer somewhat (Though Light would never admit such a thing, since he is kind of undercover). But L on the other hand has told Light that he was the first friend he ever had (which by the way really shocked Light >_>), so that definitely shows that L develops a sort of closeness towards him. Even though Light has his pride, I do feel he has also begun to feel comfortable with L (as you might catch during the later episodes). Though they seem like total opposites in appearance and in lifestyles and habits, there is definitely room for development, and they would actually be great company for one another if everything didn't have to be in such a mess.
More In-Depth- Sign Compatibility: While Light's horoscope sign is a Pisces (2/28/86) and L is a Scorpio (10/31/79), they actually are very compatible here, since they are both water signs. They both are intuitive and are sensitive on a certain level. But where they conflict is in their Zodiac signs. Light is a Tiger while L is a Goat, so they would have a difficult yet a rewarding partnership. With some effort, these two might just be able to develop something more.
Other: These two have been featured in doujinshi as pairs often and has been cosplayed together often as well. Since they naturally make good rivals, friends, or possibly as something more than that, if you are comfortable with the idea. >_> Perhaps people has gotten certain ideas when they have to be chained together in the series, so naturally it could suggest some things, mostly for the fangirls out there. ^_^
A pair that starts off a bit awkward, but then develops into something more as she begins to live in Shigure's home. Because Tohru is a kind-hearted girl, she would never choose who she likes more or treat someone with more love than the other. However, it becomes apparent that Yuki does begin to grow close to her and considers for her well-being more and more. The clues could be in the many instances such as his planting strawberries in his garden, since he know Tohru likes them and his concern, and kind assistance for her in her studies. It's also Tohru who has made Yuki smile genuinely from his heart for the first time. His sincere actions towards her also shows how much he respects and cares for her. He also seems the most comfortable when talking and being with Tohru, while with others, he doesn't seem to open up as much. Tohru also appreciates these things greatly, which makes their bond quite mutual. Though neither would actually admit if they love each other romantically, their very comfort with being with each other shows that they are great friends and even family, and have great trust in one another. Because of how well they get along, it's the reason why the fan club girls would get so upset and shaken by the idea of how close Tohru has become to Yuki.
More In-Depth- Sign Compatibility: Tohru and Yuki both are Earth signs, Tohru being a Taurus and Yuki being a Virgo, so they get along very well since both are very stable and down-to-earth. Taurus's passionate and loving personality greatly sparks Virgo and they both enjoy being at home and making a secure future. For their Zodiac signs, Tohru is the Dog while Yuki is the Rat, which makes them very friendly towards each other, though they both might live in different worlds. This companionship, however, is a very stable and lasting one, if they had the chance to be a couple that is. But as friends, they are very trustworthy and caring towards each other. In the long run, this kind of companionship lasts.
A pair that doesn't start off on very good terms, since Kyo acts very brash and hot-tempered during his first encounter with her. He clearly was too blinded by his anger at Yuki to even think much of her, only until he ends up hurting her by his careless actions. He begins to feel regret and tries to apologize, but because he is not good with people, it ends up in disaster and gets thrown out of proportion. He has a hard time expressing what he really feels and tries to cover it up by his "outbursts." But it becomes apparent that Kyo gradually develops feelings for Tohru as he lives in the same house with her and sees her each day. Her consideration and cheerful disposition really brings out something in him that he hasn't felt for others. Tohru is always smiling and cheerful when around him, so it slowly begins to grown on him and soften his edgy personality. Though it's hard for him to open up and show his true feelings for her, especially when he is always in a household with other people, it's clear that behind his hot-tempered actions and words, he really cares for Tohru. Their very opposite personalities really compliment each other and each is able to help and provide something the other doesn't have. Tohru's kind and gentle personality is just what Kyo needs to bring out his true and genuine feelings. This seems like an unlikely couple, since Kyo frequently says things that may seem hurtful to Tohru, but she always looks on the bright side of things and accepts things as they are. Though they might not always see eye-to-eye on things, they really both care about one another and can be a great support for a relationship.
More In-Depth- Sign Compatibility: Tohru and Kyo are both Earth signs, Tohru being a Taurus and Kyo a Capricorn, so they get along very well since they are both down-to-earth and passionate in what they do. Tohru admire's Kyo's strength of purpose and Kyo is delighted with Tohru's affectionate stability. Though Tohru may seem aloof at times, Kyo can give the encouragement and responsiveness she needs. She can also tap deep into the romanticism that lies under Kyo's reserve. Tohru is devoted while Kyo is loyal, so this makes a very strong and lasting union.
A pair that probably gets along the most out of the series. They immediately enjoy each other's company and become great friends. Both are very considerate for one other and enjoy spending time together. Momiji is especially very fond of Tohru and loves to hug and be around her whenever he sees her, Tohru also appreciates his company and likes being around him. Even though Momiji may seem more outgoing, he is able to bring Tohru out of her shell and get her to try new things. As the series progresses, they begin to have a deep understanding of each other and their bond seems to only get stronger. They make the best of friends and are comfortable with doing anything together. But because Momiji looks much younger, Tohru may think of him more as a kid than someone around her age. It's also hard to picture them being more than just friends, because Momiji looks and acts much younger than Tohru. But even so, they always seem to get along very well with one another and their bond is unlike any other. They really make the best of friends.
More In-Depth- Sign Compatibility: While Tohru is a Taurus and Momiji is a Pisces, they are not the both of the same element signs, however, they are both caring and helpful towards one another and compassionate to each other's feelings. Tohru may be too practical and down-to-earth for Momiji's sensitive and emotional nature, but both make a very harmonious pair, because each enjoys the finer things in life and also each other's company openly. Tohru's zodiac sign is the Dog and Momiji is the Rabbit, so they also get along well here, since Tohru is loyal, friendly and protective, while Momiji is affectionate, sensitive and caring. Because they don't take each other for granted, this truly makes a very compatible pair.
A pair that probably sets off the most steam and tension out of the whole series. Since it's almost a cruel fate that these two have to be "the Cat and Mouse" of the Zodiac, it's inevitable that they are fated to not get along. It can't be helped that with the folktale of the cat and mouse, there would be conflicting feelings between the two, especially for the cat. They are always either fighting, arguing or in the same room in silence and tension. It seems that the only time they seem to be most in common is when they're both concerned for Tohru, however, that might even create more conflict and competition between the two, since they both really care about her. In Tohru's point of view, it seems that they seem the most "normal" or their usual selves when they are fighting. Not that it's a good thing, but it at least shows they are showing their feelings o_O. It's true that it would be a bit creepy if they actually did get along very well, as "imagined" in one of the episodes. Perhaps these two were really meant to be eternal rivals. o_o
More In-Depth- Sign Compatibility: Yuki and Kyo are both Earth signs. Yuki is a Virgo while Kyo is a Capricorn, so they are both down-to-earth and hardworking, which means they should really actually get along. But it's ironic that their Zodiac signs are complete opposites, so it throws off their chances of ever really getting along. Supposingly, there can't be a better rivalry than the one between a cat and mouse. >_>

The ever so famous pairing that has either been seen as rivals, team mates, partners, or "lovers". >_> Most likely because of the very well known "kissing scene" between them in the third episode, it has made this pair very popular among many (especially the fangirls) and created a lot of fandom in their relationship. Due to their very opposite personalities and their and pride, neither Naruto or Sasuke seems to want to get along, though they have shown great consideration for one another when one was in trouble and danger. They also make good rivals, because both want to be stronger and are always competing against each other or showing off somehow. Even when in training, they are always trying to outdo one another, but Naruto's outgoing nature keeps this pair together and communicating.
Naruto is very outgoing and spirited while Sasuke is reserved and rare to open up, so this naturally creates a conflict between the two and makes communication a bit difficult. Even so, they have always been on the same team and trained together and been through thick and thin together. Their bond has grown quite strong on a certain level and they both know each other's personality and aspects well. However, due to Sasuke's search for absolute power and him turning to the "dark side," they are not able to see eye-to-eye. With Sasuke's absence, Naruto truly begins to see Sasuke as a true team mate and irreplaceable person, and is also working very hard to get him back. Though they will always have some kind of rivalry with one another, their bond is still a strong one, whether as partners or something else >_>.
More In-Depth- Sign Compatibility: Naruto's sign is the Libra while Sasuke is the Leo, so they are both quite different on a certain level. Naruto enjoys everything to be in order and likes to be in the spotlight, while Sasuke has a knack for getting attention and likes doing things in a big way. They both may not always balance, because they're both extravagant and love to shine and each will also try to outdo the other in order to get attention. However, because the Libra may be indecisive at times, the Leo will naturally take charge. Libra's playfulness blends well with Leo's dash and energy. And Libra does have to approach Leo carefully on matters involving ego, but once that can be settled, this makes a nice pair that will last and shine together.
Mitsuki has always been trying her best to follow her dreams to become a singer, and ever since Takuto and Meroko arrived, he has decided to help her despite their real duty on Earth. He knows that she truly is a dedicated and talented singer, so he chooses to use his powers for her sake. He acts very stubborn and cold towards her, always arguing and saying she is stupid and clumsy, but deep down he begins to grow a fondness towards her. Her well-being begins to become more important to him as he sees her struggles and hardships, bringing out a kinder and gentler person in him.
Whenever Mitsuki openly talks about Eichi, it's clear that he gets angry and a bit jealous that she is so devoted to him (Aww.. XD). As he watches her each day, his feelings become stronger even though he knows there's no place for him in her heart, because he is a shinigami and she is a human. No matter how much he loves her, he believes he could never really make her happy. Even so, Mitsuki cares a lot about him, because he has done so much for her and has been there to help her when she most needed. He has also risked his life for her or took extreme measures into helping her when he didn't have to. So because of his faithful and protective actions, it's clear that his feelings towards her are genuine and that he wishes to be the only one for her. Though Takuto might seem like a "secondary" character in this series, but he gradually becomes a very important one. Takuto is protective and concerned for her, and Mitsuki appreciates his intentions and talents and likes being around him. These two make a very adorable and lasting couple.
More In-Depth- Sign Compatibility: It is extremely difficult to find the birthdates of characters from this series, but I was able to find out that Takuto is a Libra (9/27), but unfortunately I couldn't find out Mitsuki's. If anyone knows her birthday, please let me know. It will be greatly appreciated. ^_^
This may seem like an unlikely pair, but they actually would make a cute couple if you have seen the series. It appears that Izumi may be coldhearted and scheming towards Mitsuki, but he really is trying to ease her pain and to see her happy again. His seemingly manipulative and sly ways seems to strangely fit well with Mitsuki's innocent and dependent character. She trusts what he says and he is skillful enough to make her believe him. It feels like despite him trying to trick her into doing something, he feels that she is too kind-hearted and naive to manipulate that it makes him a bit soft. Izumi also seems to really enjoy her company, especially in the episode when Mitsuki goes to ask him for help. He has also mentioned in his first encounter with her that she was cute, and not to mention he also is interested in her music. Izumi seems to really sympathize with Mitsuki in the end and he has begun to truly believe she is a genuine person. If Meroko weren't in the picture, he may have really been in love with Mitsuki probably just as much as Takuto is. ^_^
More In-Depth- Sign Compatibility: It's extremely difficult to find the birthdates of characters from this series, but if anyone knows Mitsuki's and Izumi's birthday, please let me know, so I can finish writing this section. It will be greatly appreciated. ^_^
This seems probably the most likely second pair in the series, since these two have had such a long history and past together. Due to Izumi's tragic past as a human, Meroko seemed like the first person to truly love him at the time when they became shinigami partners. Though he was not ready to love another at the time, since he was still suffering from his past, he acted cold towards Meroko and betrayed her as well as getting a new shinigami partner, which ended up hurting Meroko. After some time, he has truly realized how much he loved her, so he tries to get her to come back to him again, though Meroko has already now fallen in love with her new partner, Takuto. The result of their relationship is different in the anime and manga version, but either way, it seems these two are the most suitable for each other, as long as the feelings are mutual. I find it so adorable how Meroko would go to Izumi when she was feeling very sad and cried on his lap while he patiently listened to her troubles and stroked her hair... XD. Though I am not exactly a big fan of Meroko, I think she truly makes Izumi happy, since he loves her so very much. It's especially cute how he would enjoy teasing her and making her blush, because it's "one of the "pleasures in life he lives for" XD. This is quite a very magnetic couple.
More In-Depth- Sign Compatibility: It's extremely difficult to find the birthdates of characters from this series, but if anyone knows Izumi's and Meroko's birthday, please let me know, so I can finish writing this section. It will be greatly appreciated. ^_^
A pair that seems inseparable. They match not only attire and in the similar stuffed animal they carry, but also in how they seem a bit cold and love to joke and tease others. I find this pair to be very great partners when working together, because they seem to understand each other and enjoy doing similar things, so it's no wonder that they get along so well. They were both created by Nagisa not to feel pain, so they are also as close as brothers. Though they have slightly different personalities, Natsuo seems to really care about Youji, which is apparent especially in episode 8. They seem like the best playful, trouble-making pair yet and they can pass off the most suitable looking duo ever. ^_^
A pair that will always be one of my favorites, because of the long history they've had together. Living on the same island and always spending time together as children, Sora and Riku truly have become the best of friends, and perhaps have a special bond that is rarely found anywhere else.
In KH1, it seems they are a bit competitive when it comes to sparring and seeing who gets to be closer with Kairi. It also seems like despite Riku being mixed up with the baddies to save Kairi, him and Sora have a special bond that only the two of them have. In the ending, a great force is created when they are separated, so it creates a great feel of loss between them. The final scene between Riku and Sora was just heart breaking to me, that it brought on the tears. Especially in the Final Mix version of the ending, it was slightly longer and had more "memories" or them together in the past, which has made an even greater impact on me, making their parting even more sadder than in the original KH1 ending.
But as the story progresses into KH2, it seems like Sora wants nothing but to find Riku again. The game has also made it almost an anticipating desperation, it feels as though Sora may feel Riku is more important to him than a friend. It also becomes apparent that Kairi doesn't seem like the main focus anymore, since her scenes with Sora has decreased ever since the first KH, and Sora also doesn't seem as desperately determined to see her (not as much as Riku XD), but he definitely still cares about her and considers her an important friend, who he has also grew up with. This may hint that Sora has less interest in her, or he values Riku as a friend much more, or maybe their male friendship has a special bond that they can't have with a girl >_>, or maybe most fangirls just can't help but pairing these two together because they seem to go so well. >_>
It seems like Sora is also most comfortable around Riku and he is able to be himself around him, which truly shows how close they are. Not to mention, most of the KH2 ending features scenes between these two and even the little details hints their growing bond ^_~. It's hard not to picture them in a "shounen-ai" relationship with those rather close scenes between them (but I won't spoil them completely for those who didn't see it). I feel that this pair has created a mass of fangirls and myself included, >_> so their connection with one another is truly unlike any other and seems to win the hearts of many, because of how well they go together, especially in KH2 ^_^. Great team mates and childhood friends, these two make a very complimenting pair. ^_^

A pair that seems to compliment each other well despite the major differences in personalities and style. Upon Fayt's first meeting with Albel, it was rather not on good terms, since Albel was seemingly the enemy at first. Then as the story progresses, you are able to recruit him as a member, so Albel could repay for his wrongdoings and help you through the mines as an order from the duke.
Even though Albel reluctantly joins and calls just about everyone a "worm" or "maggot," he actually is concerned if he is being a bother to the party or not. This is apparent in the cut scene in the Petery inn when Albel sneaks up to Fayt's room at night and tries to "kill him," but Fayt notices beforehand and gets up while the sword ends up stabbing his pillow. Albel then asks Fayt to go outside with him to have a talk, which greatly puzzles Fayt. It turns out Albel wanted to ask him if he "hates him" or not. This act alone shows that deep down that cold exterior of his, Albel is actually concerned and that he doesn't want to be treated like an outcast. This scene alone, hints a developing bond between these two, whether teammates or friends. The response to his question, however, could be chosen depending on your choice. But if you choose to say that you don't hate him, he begins to question it and wonder why, since he has treated Fayt and everyone around him so badly. But Fayt tells him that deep down he knows he is a good person and that everyone is unique in their own way, so he accepts the way he acts and knows he doesn't really intend on hurting others. This may have affected Albel deep down, and knowing him, he brushes it off coldly, and says that Fayt is living in a dream if he thinks he can trust just anyone, and walks away. If you keep Albel in your party throughout the game and choose the responses that will favor Albel more, they both can have a paired ending together. It is a rather "adorable" ending, to see them arguing and things that hint how close they have gotten on their travels. Albel mentions to Fayt "Lessons can't be taught by a gentle hand," which is actually sort of a compliment for Fayt ^_^. Fayt's optimistic and caring personality greatly compliments Albel's cold and steely one. These two definitely make a good pairing since Fayt is willing to understand Albel, and Albel is willing to stay with him and open up to him gradually. These two may sometimes argue a little, but deep down their bond is strong and they both make great team mates, since they are both strong fighters. A personal favorite pairing of mine, and another classic example of how opposites attract. ^_^
