*NEW* While I was looking through some Naoji Itoh artwork, I found out this series called Nanatsuiro Drops with such cute characters. ^_^ I couldn't help but want to make a gif of the main female character Sumomo in chibi form. I'm not entirely familiar with the story yet, but the main character, Masaharu gets turned into a stuffed lamb doll after accidentally drinking some kind of potion. XD This is such a cute anime and rather a recent series that has a sort of cross between 'A Little Snow Sugar Fairy' and 'Card Captor Sakura' in my opinion. I recommend it if your into cute magical girl anime or shoujo anime in general. XD
C.C. from Code Geass. At first I wasn't as into C.C. as much, but as I watched more of the series and found out she also has a love for pizza, I was instantly taken into her character, because pizza happens to be one of my most fav foods. XD Though she seems to be independent and sometimes "doing what she wants," she can also have a rather "childish" and gullible side, so turned out to be my favorite character next to Lelouch. ^_^ Though she is very mysterious, I think she and Lelouch are an interesting pair, because of their "amusing" interactions with each other. ^_^ But despite my great determination to make a gif of her, I had THE MOST trouble drawing her. >_< So much that I don't think I ever had this much trouble before drawing any of my other gifs (and I had very troubling moments with some of them). But I think the major challenge was her pose and how I could NEVER get her left leg to look right. >_< I told myself not to give up, but I was so stressed out that I couldn't finish until like a month of working on her. x_x I looked almost everywhere for as many resources as possible for her outfit, because it has details that can easily be overlooked or missed, so I tried my best to make it as accurate as possible. And because I wanted to do my own pose for more originality, I kept thinking, "How would her pants look if her leg was posed this way.... >_<" So a lot of time was taken JUST for her leg alone and deciding how the structure of the pants would settle at the end of her leg. >_< I won't even go into the other details or I may end up writing a book, but I always tend to make the food more detailed for some reason. And because C.C. always orders pizza from Pizza Hut in the series, the pizza she's eating didn't end up to look so much like Pizza Hut pizza with the thick crust, but I thought this pizza looked pretty good anyways. XD Overall, I can't really complain about the results, because I finally made it through and finished it as I said I would. Now I must pass out. XD
Woo! Akito/Agito from Air Gear. I found out about him through a fanlisting and immediately fell in love with him. XD He has split personalities, hence the slash between the two names. When his eyepatch covers his right eye, he is known as Akito, who is innocent, cute, and cheerful in personality. But when the eyepatch over his left eye, Agito dominates his body, who is the ruthless and violent, dark alter ego of him. This gif shows Agito in the outfit he first appears in, resembling a straightjacket, which indeed reflects his out-of-control personality. XD He uses the hooks at the end of the straps on his legs to tear people apart with when in battle, which shows how brutal and violent he is. Agito is just an evil psycho kid and I just love how he is so crazy compared to the innocent Akito. XD I find his double personalities interesting and how they can change easily just by shifting the eyepatch to a different eye. His innocent side, Akito not only acts adorable, but he also likes to crossdress, which gets his dark alter ago, Agito in funny predicaments. XD It was really difficult to draw the straps coming from his legs and to make them flow smoothly. And this is probably one of the few gifs that shows a lot of movement and that was successfully made with an original pose of mine. I should have done a gif of Agito when he battles in a dress that Akito decides to wear, because it's priceless when he rides the air treks with them. XD Maybe one day I will. ^_^
Woo! Mikami Teru from Death Note. Probably the second gif I decided to make two versions of aside from L. I was conflicting with myself whether I should have him wearing his glasses or have him taking them off, so in the end I thought, "Gah! Why not just make both versions!" XD This gif came out way too big, but I couldn't do much about it, because making it smaller would really decrease the amount of pixels allowed for the details of his face, which I already had very little of with this size... His hair was also extremely difficult to draw, because it has so many curls, spikes and layers here and there, so it was really a challenge to get his hair style accurately portrayed here. This version is the one with glasses where he is more serious, which is the way he is seen most of the time. I originally started the first gif of Mikami with glasses, but put the scrap drawing aside to work on the one where he is taking them off, since it was a more original idea. But I thought people would have recognized him more with them on, so I just had to include this version in the collection in the end. But after making both versions I think this one may have turned out to fit more with his character.
This version of Mikami is where I decided to go for a more original pose idea. As you can see, I let the "fangirl" get the best of me and went for a more "fanservice" pose, if I may. Since you rarely would see him taking off his glasses and smirking, I thought it was an idea that I couldn't pass up the opportunity on. >_> However, this took the longest to make, because I didn't know how his glasses would look when taken off at a certain angle and how he would be holding it. So being bad at poses, I decided to use myself as a model (again) and make it after holding my own glasses, which look very similar to his. I think the combination of the "smirk" and him taking off his glasses does show a different side to Mikami. ^_^
Kyo Sohma from Fruits Basket! This gif took much longer than expected, because I decided to do my own original pose instead of making it after an image, so naturally for me it would take some time to think of a good pose... I had no idea where to begin and edited this gif numerous times to get everything to look as accurate as possible, especially Kyo's "laid back" gestures and face. Since he rarely smiles and usually looks like he's thinking "What are you looking at?," I decided to give him this sort of expression. XD Perhaps he may look a bit too angry, but I guess that kinda fits him in a certain way. ^_^; I also had a hard time thinking of what clothes he should be wearing, because he does wear many various outfits throughout the series, which is more than the average anime character. But I thought I should just mix up the different styles I see him wear and give it my own colors to make it more one-of-a-kind. Because this was also my original pose, I had no resources for it other than my failed attempts to try and do this pose in the mirror to get the anatomy just right... XD Even so, it was really hard getting everything with my extremely small mirror, so I had to make up the rest. XD But overall, I think I captured the "Kyo" look and made him look a bit more detailed than the original. I think it turned out better than I planned. ^_^
L from Death Note. Actually the re-edited version of the one I first put up, since I spotted some flaws just after it was posted. This originally was supposed to be a L and Raito/Light gif of them posing together, but Light proved to be extremely difficult to draw (has to be the hair and the pose. Afterall, I was drawing it after the manga version, so it was extremely way too detailed). Because of that, I ended up altering the L from that sketch of them together and tried to make his pose more independently. This is the one I finally came up with after observing some images of him. I also didn't know whether to color him darker like in the anime or in lighter colors like the manga images. I decided to make both versions, but decided to display the anime version, since it seems to capture a darker essence of L more. I also wanted to have him eating some kind of sweets or do a more "not-as-plain" pose, but I decided to leave those ideas for maybe another future gif of him. >_>
*RE-EDIT* Yes, it's L from Death Note again, but actually much different than I planned. ^_^ This was actually going to just be a simple re-edit of the L gif below just in lighter colors and maybe a change in the expression slightly, but then I thought that would be too boring. So I thought to really capture the "L essence" he needed to be eating cake, since he has eaten it a lot in the series. But I almost died trying to find decent strawberry cake pictures on Google as a resource for the details, because nothing matched what I pictured in my mind, so I thought "gahh, I'll just make it up." >_< It's almost impossible for me to draw a real tasty looking cake in MS Paint, but I tried the best I could and edited it in PSP8 with all the shading madness. And to go into more madness, the hand pose was a whole 5 hours in itself. I tried to go by the "L" rules of how he holds certain things in certain ways (such as holding the cell phone with three fingers), so I kept changing the position of his fingers hundreds of times until I just went insane and just kept this one XD. I had to use my own hand as a model, cuz they is no way in a million years I could draw this hand pose from my head, lol. I had to hold something in front of mirror as a prop for the cake, so I could get the pose right, and boy was my arm getting sore. I think I changed the hand pose too many times to count, but I will end the whole hand pose thing now. As for the mouth animation, it was stressing and tedious. I needed reference so I had to pay real close attention to how he chews in the anime to get the right animation down. I won't go on any longer, or I would come up with a novel for this, lol, but after all the crazy editing, I finally finished it, and I think the expression and action for this gif expresses the real L much better. ^_^
Woo! A Mello gif from Death Note! I was going to make a gif of L and Light before I made one of him, but I thought he was a much more refreshing character to make into a gif, so I ended up doing this one first. I couldn't believe Mello was a male the first time I saw him, but once I saw him in the series, I couldn't help but fall in love with his character and his obsession with chocolate ^_^. Because of that, I had to include him eating a chocolate bar like he often does in the series. He's also supposed to be licking his lips in the gif, but I thought it would be strange if I actually animated him doing that (since I am horrible at animating), so I left it just showing his tongue. Takeshi Obata's artwork is so detailed that it took almost 60 edited files in MS Paint to get to this final result x_x. I spent about two entire days almost non-stop to complete this gif, so if anything looks wrong, it was probably because I was looking at it too long to spot anymore mistakes. There were so many variations to this, but I won't get into that, since it would extremely lengthen the page. I think after all the crazy editing, it turned out pretty nicely. ^_^
This is Setsuna from Angel Sanctuary. I've wanted to do a gif of Kaori Yuki's artwork for a long time, but it was always so difficult to draw in MS Paint considering how much detail was involved. But once I saw this image from the artbook, I thought it would make an interesting gif, since the pose has a different style than what I would usually do. However, this is also probably one of the most difficult when it comes to getting the proportions to look right. It took me weeks to adjust and edit the entire gif to get his body to close to the original. And many times I thought it would be impossible to finish. Perhaps it's the pose that makes it difficult to work with. I also wanted to make his wings a little transparent so they would look see-through when put on a colored background, but I wasn't able to get that to work >_=. But I kept working on it til the end and pulled through, and I think it came out better than expected. ^_^
